“Everything Tastes Better Wrapped in a Puff Pastry”
We all have those days when the need for something sweet hits you like a rock. I’m not talking about dessert after lunch or dinner, who wants to wait that long? Pastries are a delight, especially when paired with a nice hot cup of coffee in the morning. And while there are plenty of options to choose from, I picked out a few of my absolute favorites to share with you.
Almond Croissants at Espresso Love
A well-known coffee house located in Edgartown serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Once inside, you’ll find yourself perusing the menu and selection of homemade muffins, croissants, pastries and various sweet confections. But, nothing beats layers and layers of buttery, flaky pastry. It is definitely the best way (in my opinion) to start your day. These Almond Croissants have a sweet, yet delicate almond filling and are baked to perfection. Grab yourself a latte and prepare to fall in Love. Bonus: they’re perfect for a mid-afternoon snack as well.
Maple Cranberry Oat Scones at The Scottish Bakehouse
There are those certain food items that tend to linger in your mind for days, or even months. The combination of taste, texture and smell must come together as a whole in order for this phenomenon to occur. The Maple Cranberry Oat Scones at The Scottish Bakehouse do just that. Simple ingredients make up this heavenly delight- oat flour, cranberries, honey and butter and the glaze is a basic mix of maple syrup and confectionery sugar. The glaze is the right amount of sweet atop of the not too dense scone. Trust me when I say you will want to purchase a few of these to take home with you. They are the perfect accompaniment to your morning cup of coffee.
Strawberry Danish at Edgartown Meat and Fish Market
The Strawberry Danish, sometimes Raspberry, at Edgartown Meat and Fish is a wonderful mid-day snack. The textural contrast between tender, buttery, flaky top crust and dense, moist buttery center; the sweet taste of strawberry is the perfect finish. I often frequent this establishment craving a hot Starbucks latte and Danish- it takes me back to the days of living in NYC, not to mention that I love sitting on their comfy leather couches. This is pure heaven not to mention a great place to sit, sip and ponder the day away.
