Delicious Food, Craft Cocktails and Wonderful Ambience
September 2016
There’s something special about a place where the atmosphere and food compliment each other whole-heartedly. Rockfish, a restaurant located in the heart of Edgartown has gained a distinct reputation for serving delicious food and smooth tasting craft cocktails on two levels of dining- each one with its own distinct personality.
As you walk in from Water Street, you’ll find a fully-stocked, spacious, wood top bar with plenty of seating. The tall ceiling, crisp white walls and large street front windows give the room a spacious and airy feel, perfect for watching the foot traffic floating by from the high-top tables. At night, the atmosphere becomes a bit livelier, especially with the occasional presence of live music.
The second level is a different story altogether. From the ground floor, a black metal railing leads you upstairs to the wide open floor plan. The high wood ceilings, beautiful exposed beams, and hardwood floors are offset by brick and Edison-style lighting, giving the space an industrial feel.
A large, brick fire pizza oven stands tall in the corner, glowing like a hearth next to a cathedral-like window that sheds a soft glow of light into the room. Several antiquated whiskey barrels support the beautiful copper top bar that surrounds the fiery brick oven.
The dark wood tones and soft lighting gives this space warmth. It’s cozy, intimate and completely romantic. There’s another beautiful, full-length bar with ample seating and plenty of tables for dining. It’s the perfect setting for a romantic dinner, a gathering of longtime friends, a civilized bachelor or bachelorette party or an intimate reception or rehearsal dinner.
The menu gives the customer plenty of options ranging from local seafood to steak and chicken, accompanied by a well-curated list of wine, beer and specialty cocktails. The Rockfish Mojito is always a good start, made with Flor de Cana 7yr old Rum, fresh mint, blueberries and lime. The Hydration Martini which consists of Titos Vodka, Cointreau, Organic Watermelon and Coconut Juice and gets topped off with some sparkling Rose’ is another good option.
For starters, the Wood Oven Charred Brussel Sprouts are always a crowd favorite as well as the Buffalo Fried Cauliflower. The Steak Tartare appetizer takes on a slight twist from the norm using a hard boiled quail egg as garnish. The steak is hand-cut into small, bite size morsels and mixed with capers, shallot and dijon mustard served with perfectly fried and seasoned truffle frites. This is a wonderful accompaniment to start out the evening.
There’s nothing like the taste of local seafood paired with fresh, house-made pasta. The combination is enough to ensure squeals of delight and the ‘Littlenecks with House Rolled Fettuccini’ entree does just that. Executive Head Chef Craig Decker takes pride in himself by using local seafood in his dishes. The littlenecks are combined with garlic, basil and tomatoes then tossed with white wine and hand-rolled pasta to produce a culinary delight of pure and simple goodness. A few other noteworthy suggestions: the Roasted Half Chicken entree served with pumpkin risotto and garlic broccoli rabe and the Carnita Style Pork Tacos with queso fresco served with jicama slaw.
After dinner, one must have dessert! The Vanilla Cheesecake is a light and fluffy whipped confection made in-house by Executive Baker, Chanda. In fact, this is her own recipe and it’s good! The filling uses mascarpone cheese and cream cheese with a delightful surprise – real vanilla bean. A few candied orange pieces add a touch of color for the finishing touch. It’s a delightful, not too sweet dessert that pairs well with an after dinner drink.
Rockfish restaurant has it all; Delicious food, craft cocktails, plenty of seating and a wonderful ambience. Whether it’s your first time visiting or the umpteenth, Rockfish will leave you with a lasting impression.
